Reconciled: A Poem from Brian Carpenter

Reconciled

I’m not the man I said I’d be
My masquerade of late pays a toll
Broke my ties, severed the bonds
No mystery in the air, my secret’s exposed
Bagged and bruised I’m defeated
The morgue was waiting
Reason exiled
A toxic transformation
Recovery feeble withstanding
Mercury guide me home
Dilute the guilt
Every warning ignored
Slapping the wise
Chasing farewells
Discovering carnal needs
Inside behind the grime
Something worthwhile
My hidden half
