Poetry from Brian Carpenter

Silent Lovers
By Brian Carpenter

Lovers that refuse to connect: they’re stubborn
The chemistry is present reacting as it should
Looks of admiration exchanged from every distance
Champions of the flirt and the tease
Needn’t explain the natural order of things

Doctors on the scene without a remedy
Our subjects, optimists, their potential, limitless
Side by side on a swan boat ride in August
Holding hands while waves caress the stern
Yet the feelings are never understood

Not even wounded nor handicapped
Yet blind to the holes in their chest
A masterpiece if woven together
Separate, existing as banal threads
Who sleep restlessly in separate beds
