The Jonze.

Spike Jonze has been around the block. A business owner with great taste in women, a shoe designer, a film maker, and among much more, a connoisseur of the music world. His newest video for the Jay-Z and Kanye West song “Otis” fits in nicely with his repertoire, which includes other superstars of the same genre such as The Notorious B.I.G., Ludacris, and Puff Daddy. While Jonze’s videos generally feature much more obscure musical talents of the more subversive genres his videos therefore reflect this. “Otis” (even despite it’s fantastic Motown loop) isn’t what we’d call one of his best works (but that’s just us). On the other hand it reflects only what most other contemporary and mainstream hip/hop/rap music videos depict: women in orgasmic states of pleasure, fast and expensive cars, and generally weak surroundings. In honor of what Jonze is capable of (and not what he’s currently doing- aside from our first pick, as you’ll see below) we’ve put together a list (in no particular order) of some of his best videos. Agree? Disagree? Let us know in the comments below.

1. Beastie Boys- “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win” (2011)

2. Sonic Youth- “100%” (1992)

3. Breeders- “Cannonball” (1993)

4. Weezer- “Buddy Holly” (1994)

5. Bjork- “It’s Oh So Quiet” (1995)

6. Fatboy Slim- “Weapon of Choice” (2000)

7. Yeah Yeah Yeahs- “Y Control” (2004)

8. Pavement- “Shady Lane” (1997)

9. Wax- “California” (1995)

10. Ween- “Freedom of 76’” (1995)

11. Daft Punk- “Drunk Girls” (2010)
